I am a homebody. I do not go many places. But, I have to do things and go visit other people in order to socialize outside my home and work. It is often not easy because when you get home you might want to sit down and not visit with anyone, curl up and watch television, or just be on your phone.
Does this sound like YOU?
If so, you are not alone.
I have one night a week I spend with my mom, stepdad, my youngest brother, and my oldest son. This time spent together is the key to building a healthy family relationship, something everyone will look forward to doing once a week, and will create everlasting memories to talk about later.
It does not take much to create this memorable event, but each family member must be dedicated to not only participating, but playing their part in bringing something to the event. It only takes up a few hours of your time in a night to socialize and spend time together, but it is absolutely necessary if you want to catch up with each other’s lives.
You can do this once a week like I do, every two weeks, or once a month. However you can fit it into everyone’s schedule.
Below are 3 tips to building a successful family relationship
- Schedule time together by blocking off your calendar at least once a week, every two weeks, or once a month. This time can be spent just talking, having a cup of coffee or tea, sharing photos, watching a movie, karaoke night, or just about anything you can imagine. The key is to just get together.
- Family game night is a fun way to keep spirits up and give you hours of friendly, fun, family competition. Try playing games like Jenga, Uno, Yahtzee, or just about any game to get everyone excited and happy to be together.
- Recipe swap night. Have a night where everyone comes over to cook their favorite dish. By combining everyone’s dish into one big family meal it allows for great conversation, sharing of good recipes, and nobody leaves hungry.
Although, these are only a few to generate ideas, let your imagination run wild and come up with creative ways to get the family together. There is nothing like a good old fashion BBQ to get everyone together and build everlasting memories, but no matter which way you choose to get everyone together, the main thing is to just get together. You will be surprised and maybe even entertained to find out what everyone is up to.
