Your Best Year Ever

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas holiday and a Happy New Year celebration.  Now that the festivities are over and we are a few days into the new year, I want to take the opportunity to share some things with you.  As you go through each day this year you have opportunities to do many things but you must take action if you want this to be  your best year ever.  Below are my best tips to having your best year ever.

*NOTE*  These action items are not for the timid.  You must be willing to put in the work if you want this to be your best year ever.  So, if you are not willing to put in the work, don’t read any further.  But, if you want this to be your best year ever, please continue reading.

  • You are in control and your attitude is your most important asset.  Don’t allow anything negative to impact you as you can control any situation with a positive attitude and intentional action.  Remember that the most important thing that you control within any situation/circumstance is your attitude toward it.
  • Things don’t happen to you, they happen for you.  A lesson can be learned from both positive and negative situations/circumstances.  Take each day as an opportunity to learn and grow by not being bitter about the things you have to do but by being thankful for each opportunity of things you get to do.  Regardless of how you may think your day is I guarantee that there is no need to get bitter.  Instead you should be getting better if you look at things from a learning/growing perspective.  Don’t be so proud that you don’t think you can learn from anyone.  I’ve learned some of life’s greatest lessons by listening to my kids and you can learn too, if you take the time to look, listen, and take action.
  • Intentionally focus on what is important.  If you want to succeed at anything in life you have to intentionally focus on those things.  Don’t let any outside distractions take you away from the things you should really be focusing your time and efforts on.  Sure, there are so many things that can happen and you feel obligated to do but remember that you do what you choose to do.  Don’t spread yourself so thin that you can’t enjoy life and take advantage of important opportunities.  It is up to you to decide how you want to spend your time.  If you complain about not having enough time, you did that to yourself by choosing what you get into and what you don’t get into; so choose wisely.
  • Grind and hustle every day to accomplish your Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF).  If you don’t put forth a continuous, physical effort I guarantee that there is someone out there that is working just as hard, if not harder than you to achieve their dreams/goals.  I want you to start with writing down the things you want to achieve this year.  No matter how big or small, write them down.  Then, I want you to filter this list down to the three most important things you believe you should accomplish and work hard every single day to accomplish your Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF).  Once you identify your BLUF items then I want you to work hard every day by grinding and hustling your ass off to achieve those things.  Nothing ever got accomplished by wishing for them, they only got done through “HARD FREAKING WORK”.

Well, there they are.  I know this is a little different from anything you have read from be before but I wanted to grab your attention.  I hope this hit you pretty hard and gave you the wake up call you need if you want this to be your best year ever.  Life is too short for you not to achieve greatness, but you have to put in the work if you want to get anything out of it.  I want you to be open minded and remember that regardless of any situation or circumstance that there are many ways to approach it depending on the perspective in which you take it.  Be open minded, remain flexible to change, but intentionally firm in your choices and I guarantee you will have a great year ahead.
